Adamas 1198 - 40th Anniversary

2016 marked the 40th anniversary of the Adamas guitar.  Introduced in 1976, the carbon fiber topped Adamas literally reset the standard by which all previous and future Ovation guitars would be judged.  To celebrate the 40th anniversary Ovation produced a limited number of Adamas guitars in a unique configuration which incorporated both historical as well as newly developed technologies.  Most notably the dual sound holes are adorned with the three bars (aka “Bearclaw”) that were seen on some early Adamas prototypes.  The neck is a 12 fret 1-3/4 nutwidth similar to what had been the U681 model with slotted headstock.  And the fretboard features a unique “Phoenix” inlay which some believe depicts the brand rising from the ashes.   My guitar shown below is s/n 02 of the limited run, which I was fortunate to be able to order through Lost Art Vintage Instruments to include custom Waverly gold tuners to further setoff the beautiful slotted headstock.
